7 Characteristics You Should Look For In Your Realtor
Over the years I have received wonderful reviews from my clients. While helping them purchase their home, they’ve mentioned key points they looked for in a realtor and appreciated when they worked with me. Here are some of the characteristics you should look for in your realtor.
Does your realtor…
1) Agree to discuss and agree on the commission rate without only charging the standard fees?
2) Present all offers to you but draw a big picture of both the price and the terms. Sometimes best price does not mean the best transaction for your family. A full 25% of homes under contract do not close. Let’s bring that percentage way down! No surprises!
3) Demonstrate neighborhood knowledge? We can practice real estate throughout the state of Colorado, but good realtors need to be an expert in the neighborhood in which you are interested. Would your realtor refer your business to a realtor who can better serve your interests and not their own interests?
4) Present a competent and knowledgeable history of real estate: the good, the bad, and the ugly? Being a realtor is extremely difficult. We have to be real estate competent, practice excellent relationship skills, and have a lot of patience!!!
5) Make you and your family feel appreciated and listened to? Really listening is an art without being judgmental. When you interview your realtor, see how they interact with you. Do they value your ideas?
6) Really want your business? You can tell a realtor who is extremely engaged in helping you find your next real estate. They suggest alternatives and creative ideas that help you better think through these extremely important decisions, financially and emotionally.
7) Make you feel special as you are? My clients know they can always reach me via text or email…and often at a variety of hours and days. One of the key differences between using a local realtor vs an Internet-based, third-party company is the lack of personal and timely service. This is “priceless” during a difficult negotiation or an inspection that does not go well. If your expectation is that you will work with the key realtor that convinced you to work with them, you should work with that realtor.
Buying or selling a home can be one of the most significant financial transactions many of us will do in our lifetime. Choose your realtor carefully. They can help make the process as painless and stress free as possible.
